Plivo installation failing on Ubuntu13.10, setup tools issue

Postby nurekasoft » Tue Jan 14, 2014 12:18 pm

Hi,
I'm trying to install Plivo on EC2 with Ubuntu 13.10 by referring to these instructions:
http://ictfax.org/content/ictfax-installation-guide-debian-ubuntu

While trying to set up Plivo framework as detailed out in step 4 on the above page, I face the following error:
AssertionError: /usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/virtualenv-1.11-py2.7.egg/EGG-INFO/PKG-INFO is not a subpath of /usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/virtualenv-1.11-py2.7.egg/virtualenv_support/setuptools-2.0.2-py2.py3-none-any.whl/

A bit of web search makes me believe that this problem is a known issue in setuptools (issue#129:https://bitbucket.org/pypa/setuptools/issue/129/assertionerror-egg-info-pkg-info-is-not-a) which is then carried forward by virtualenv and thereby plivo distribution bundled in ictfax-2.1.1/plivo-devel.

The issue in setuptools is resolved; and will be packaged in virtualenv 1.11.1 according to the issue#524 for virtualenv: https://github.com/pypa/virtualenv/issues/524. The plivo distribution in ictfax2.1.1 refers to virtualenv1.11.

Can someone help me know how to apply this fix for setuptools so that my ictfax installation can continue? Right now, I'm completely stuck because of this issue as Plivo doesn't get installed.

Any help is really appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,
The instructions were a bit different for me; but basically I followed your idea of uninstalling and manually installing setuptools and virtualenv. After that, I retried plivo installation and it seems to work. I will now move forward with installation of ICTFax itself.

Thanks so much for your help. Really appreciated.
